Breakaway Collective LLC, doing business as Breakaway Girls Hockey (“Breakaway,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), respects the privacy of our athletes, parents, guardians, coaches, customers, members, and website visitors.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you visit BreakawayGirlsHockey.com, register an athlete for a Breakaway program, purchase a membership or service, subscribe to communications, participate in Breakaway Athletes, or otherwise interact with Breakaway.
Because many Breakaway programs are designed for youth athletes, protecting children's information is especially important to us. Registrations and membership purchases for minor athletes must be completed by an adult parent, legal guardian, or other legally authorized adult.
1. Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on how you interact with Breakaway.
Parent or Guardian Information
When registering a minor athlete or purchasing a membership on behalf of a minor, we may collect information from the adult completing the transaction, including:
Name
Email address
Telephone number
Mailing or billing information
Relationship to the athlete
Registration and purchase history
Consent and acknowledgment records
Athlete Information
A parent, guardian, or authorized adult may provide information about an athlete, including:
Name
Age or date of birth
Hockey position
Team or organization
Playing level or hockey experience
Jersey or apparel size
Development interests or goals
Camp, clinic, or membership participation
Other information reasonably necessary to provide the applicable Breakaway program or service
We seek to collect only information reasonably necessary to provide our programs and services.
Health, Safety, and Emergency Information
For camps, clinics, or other in-person activities, we may collect information necessary to help protect participants, including emergency contacts and relevant medical conditions, allergies, injuries, medications, accessibility needs, or other information voluntarily provided by a parent or guardian.
This information is used for participant safety and program administration and is not intended to be used for advertising.
Payment Information
Purchases may be processed through third-party payment providers.
Breakaway generally does not directly store complete credit or debit card numbers. Payment providers process payment information according to their own privacy and security practices.
Website and Technical Information
When someone visits our website, Breakaway and service providers supporting the website may automatically receive certain technical information, such as:
IP address
Browser and device information
Pages viewed
Referring website
Website interactions
Cookies and similar identifiers
Approximate location derived from an IP address
We may use this information to operate, secure, analyze, and improve our website.
2. How We Use Information
We may use personal information to:
Register athletes for camps, clinics, memberships, and other programs;
Process purchases and membership payments;
Deliver Breakaway Athletes membership benefits;
Provide training plans, Hockey IQ resources, development materials, and pathway information;
Communicate with parents and guardians about their athlete's registration or membership;
Administer camps, clinics, virtual sessions, challenges, and other experiences;
Maintain participant safety and respond to emergencies;
Provide customer support;
Manage memberships and account access;
Send newsletters, program announcements, and marketing communications where permitted;
Improve our programs, resources, website, and member experience;
Detect or prevent fraud, misuse, or security issues;
Maintain business, accounting, insurance, and legal records; and
Comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not require an athlete to provide more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in a Breakaway activity.
3. Registration of Minor Athletes
Breakaway programs may be available to athletes under the age of 18.
All registrations, purchases, and Breakaway Athletes memberships for minor athletes must be completed by a parent, legal guardian, or other legally authorized adult.
During registration, the adult completing the form is required to confirm that they are at least 18 years old and have the authority to register the athlete.
By submitting information about a minor athlete, the adult completing the registration represents that they have authority to provide that information and agrees to its collection and use as described in this Privacy Policy and any additional notices presented during registration.
Minors should not independently purchase Breakaway services or submit registration forms intended for parents or guardians.
4. Children's Privacy
Breakaway recognizes that some participating athletes may be under the age of 13.
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and COPPA Rule impose requirements on covered online services concerning personal information collected online from children under 13. Those requirements include parental notice and, subject to limited exceptions, verifiable parental consent before collecting children's personal information. Federal Trade Commission
Breakaway structures registration for minor athletes around the parent or guardian rather than asking children to independently register themselves.
Where verifiable parental consent is required by applicable law, Breakaway will seek such consent before collecting, using, or disclosing the child's personal information, except where an applicable legal exception permits otherwise.
Parents and guardians may contact Breakaway to:
Review personal information maintained about their child;
Request correction or deletion of that information;
Withdraw consent where applicable; or
Refuse further collection or use of their child's personal information.

Requests may be submitted using the contact information at the end of this Privacy Policy. We may take reasonable steps to verify the identity and parental authority of the person making the request before providing or deleting information.
5. Breakaway Athletes Membership
Breakaway Athletes is a year-round development membership for female hockey players.
For minor members, the membership must be purchased and authorized by an adult as described above.
Information associated with a Breakaway Athletes membership may be used to provide:
Hockey-specific training resources;
Hockey IQ and player-development content;
Recruiting and hockey-pathway information;
Athlete challenges;
Virtual sessions and educational experiences;
Member resources;
Priority access to certain Breakaway programs; and
Other membership benefits described at the time of purchase.
Breakaway may introduce additional membership functionality as the program grows. If future features materially change how we collect, use, or disclose children's personal information, we will update our privacy practices and obtain additional parental consent where required.
6. Community and Interactive Features
Breakaway may offer moderated community activities, virtual events, challenges, or other opportunities for members to participate with Breakaway and one another.
Parents and athletes should not submit or publicly share sensitive information such as:
Home addresses;
Personal passwords;
Financial information;
Precise real-time location;
Private school or travel schedules; or
Other information that could create a safety or privacy risk.
If Breakaway introduces member profiles, direct messaging, public posting, photo or video uploads, or other interactive functionality, additional rules, safeguards, or parental permissions may apply.
7. How We Share Information
Breakaway does not sell personal information for money.
We may disclose information to service providers that perform services on our behalf or help us operate our business, including providers supporting:
Website hosting and functionality;
Registration and membership management;
Payment processing;
Email and communications;
Data storage and technology;
Accounting and administration;
Camp and event operations; and
Other services reasonably necessary to operate Breakaway.
We expect service providers receiving personal information to handle it appropriately for the services they perform.
For children's information subject to COPPA, Breakaway will take reasonable steps to use service providers and third parties capable of maintaining the confidentiality, security, and integrity of that information as required by applicable law. Federal Trade Commission
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, investigate fraud or misconduct, enforce our agreements, protect our legal rights, or protect the safety of athletes, families, staff, coaches, or others.
If Breakaway is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, financing, sale of assets, or similar transaction, information may be transferred in connection with that transaction as permitted by applicable law.
8. Advertising and Children's Information
Breakaway does not intend to use personal information collected from children for targeted advertising or sell children's personal information.
We will not condition participation in a Breakaway program on a parent consenting to the disclosure of a child's personal information for advertising purposes where such consent is not necessary to provide the program.
The FTC's updated COPPA Rule imposes additional requirements concerning disclosures of children's information to third parties for targeted advertising and other purposes. Federal Trade Commission
9. Photos, Video, and Media
Breakaway may photograph or record camps, clinics, events, and other programs.
Where appropriate or required, parents or guardians will be provided with a separate opportunity to authorize the use of an identifiable minor's photograph, video, testimonial, or similar content.
A media release or photography permission presented during registration may contain additional terms and choices separate from this Privacy Policy.
Breakaway will not treat acceptance of this Privacy Policy alone as consent to every possible promotional use of a minor's image.
10. Email and Marketing
Parents, guardians, coaches, and other adults may choose to receive Breakaway news, development resources, program announcements, and marketing communications.
Recipients may unsubscribe from promotional emails using the unsubscribe mechanism provided in those communications.
Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent Breakaway from sending necessary transactional or administrative communications relating to an active registration, purchase, event, or membership.
11. Cookies and Analytics
Breakaway and providers supporting our website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the website, maintain functionality, understand website performance, remember preferences, and improve user experience.
Certain persistent identifiers can constitute personal information under COPPA when collected from children, depending on how they are used. Federal Trade Commission
Accordingly, Breakaway will evaluate analytics, advertising pixels, plug-ins, and similar technologies used on portions of the website directed to or used by children and will obtain consent where required.
Where available or legally required, website visitors may be provided controls for managing certain cookie preferences.
12. Data Security
Breakaway uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss.
Access to sensitive participant information should be limited to people and service providers who reasonably need that information to perform their responsibilities.
No electronic system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, however, and Breakaway cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Data Retention and Deletion
Breakaway does not intend to retain children's personal information indefinitely.
Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the specific purpose for which it was collected, including providing the applicable program or membership, maintaining appropriate safety and participation records, fulfilling legal or insurance obligations, resolving disputes, and maintaining legitimate business records.
When personal information collected from a child is no longer reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected or another lawful retention requirement, Breakaway will take reasonable measures to securely delete it.
Current FTC guidance requires covered operators to maintain retention and deletion procedures and not retain children's information indefinitely. Federal Trade Commission
14. Privacy Rights and Requests
Parents, guardians, and other individuals may contact Breakaway with questions or requests regarding personal information.
Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, you may request that Breakaway:
Provide access to certain personal information;
Correct inaccurate information;
Delete certain information;
Stop future collection or use of a child's information;
Withdraw certain permissions; or
Update communication preferences.
Some information may need to be retained for legitimate legal, accounting, insurance, fraud-prevention, safety, or other purposes.
Before fulfilling a request involving a minor's information, Breakaway may take reasonable steps to confirm the requester's identity and authority to act for that athlete.
15. Third-Party Services and Links
Breakaway may use or link to third-party services such as payment processors, registration platforms, email providers, social media platforms, or other technology providers.
Third-party websites and services may maintain their own privacy policies and practices.
We encourage parents and guardians to review the privacy practices of third-party services before providing information through those services.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
Breakaway may update this Privacy Policy as our programs, technology, membership offerings, or legal obligations evolve.
When changes are made, we will update the Last Updated date at the beginning of this policy.
If we materially change how we collect, use, or disclose children's personal information, we will provide additional notice and obtain new parental consent when required by applicable law.
